Fuel Efficiency & MPG Ratings

One of the reasons MPG ratings are so important is that they provide you with an idea of how often you’ll need to stop for gas during your usual commutes. The higher the MPG rating, the more fuel efficient your vehicle is.

With the Corolla, you’ll get up to an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway/34 combined MPG rating. The most efficient trim in the lineup, however, is the Corolla Hybrid LE, which delivers an EPA-estimated 53 city/52 highway/52 combined MPG rating.1

The Hybrid LE trim comes equipped with a 11.4-gallon fuel tank, while the other trim levels have a 13.2-gallon fuel tank.

Engine and Performance Features

Now that you know just how fuel efficient this sedan is, it’s time to dive into the engine options. There are three different engines available to you:

  • Standard 1.8-liter 4-cylinder with Valvematic technology
  • Available 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence
  • Available 1.8-liter 4-cylinder with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence

The standard 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with Valvematic technology puts out 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. It’s also paired with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for a smooth and easy-to-handle ride.

For a bit more oomph, the available 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence delivers 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. This engine is typically paired with the available Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission. This transmission has a sporty feel to it and combines the immediate response of a traditional fixed first gear with the efficiency of a CVT.

In the Hybrid LE, you’ll get the 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, which delivers 121 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, you’ll get the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission, which helps with advanced fuel efficiency.
