Toyota Camry MPG by Trim Level

Overall, the kind of mileage you’ll be able to get with your Camry will vary by trim level. For example, the base LE trim level is what you’re going to need to hit that maximum EPA-estimated fuel economy of 28 city MPG and 39 highway MPG.1 This is with Front-Wheel Drive (FWD).

While the LE trim gets the highest EPA-estimated MPG, the TRD trim level comes in at an EPA-estimated 22 city MPG and 31 highway MPG.1 This is still a very impressive fuel economy for its class.

The Camry has many trim levels for you to choose from, and each one has a slightly different fuel economy rating. The trim levels are:

  • LE and LE Hybrid
  • SE and SE Hybrid
  • SE Nightshade Edition
  • XLE and XLE Hybrid
  • XSE and XSE Hybrid
  • TRD
  • XLE V6
  • XSE V6

Work with the team at our Toyota dealership to choose the right trim level for your level of fuel consciousness.

Camry MPG and Engine Specs

Your engine, transmission, and drivetrain can affect your fuel economy. Therefore, one of the many reasons why all of the trim levels have a different MPG rating is because there are so many different ways in which to configure the powertrain.

For example, the Camry comes standard with FWD, but All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is available on many trim levels. While AWD may cause a slight decrease in MPG, it comes in handy in many other ways. For instance, it can help to improve your traction control during rainy drives or when driving down one of those famous country dirt roads.

The Toyota Camry also offers a large selection of engines to choose from, each with differing power outputs that can affect your fuel economy. Here are your standard and available engine options:

  • 2.5L I-4 Engine:  205 horsepower & 185 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.5L I-4 Engine:  203 horsepower & 184 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.5L I-4 Engine:  206 horsepower & 186 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.5L I-4 Engine:  202 horsepower & 182 lb-ft of torque
  • 2.5L I-4 Hybrid Engine: 176 horsepower & 163 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.5L V6 Engine:  301 horsepower & 267 lb-ft of torque

The availability of each engine varies based on trim level, so you’ll want to work with the team at your local dealership to choose the right trim level and powertrain for your fuel economy preferences.

Toyota Camry Hybrid MPG

Finally, let’s talk a little bit about the Camry Hybrid. The EPA-estimated fuel economy of the Camry Hybrid can also vary based on your trim level:

  • Camry LE Hybrid: EPA-estimated 51 city/53 highway MPG1
  • Camry SE Hybrid: EPA-estimated 44 city/47 highway MPG1
  • Camry XLE Hybrid: EPA-estimated 44 city/47 highway MPG1
  • Camry XSE Hybrid: EPA-estimated 44 city/47 highway MPG1

All four of the hybrid trim levels are equipped with a 2.5L hybrid engine that gets a net system horsepower of 208. While the fully gas-powered models come paired with the 8-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), the hybrid models are paired with the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT).

The ECVT helps to improve fuel economy by allowing for nearly infinite shifts between the upper and lower limits. In comparison, an automatic transmission has set shift points.

The Camry hybrid trims are only available with FWD.
